Study Abroad: Major Changes in GMAT, All You Need To Know

The GMAT exam has undergone several changes in 2023 over a period of time. It is time for all these changes to be implemented soon. Therefore here is a summary of all important changes that have occurred in the GMAT Exam in 2023. 

Reduced Duration

Firstly, the GMAT duration is reduced by an hour in an official notice by the Graduation Management Admission Council (GMAC). The test duration will now be 2 hours 15 minutes. Whereas, each section will be 45 minutes long in duration. 

Changed Format 

There will now be three sections in the GMAT exam instead of four. The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section has been removed from the new exam pattern. Moreover, the verbal reasoning section will be highlighted more. Also, there is a new Data Insights section to test the data analytics skills of the prospective students. 

Scoring

The new GMAT will only give one score instead of separate Quant and Verbal scores, AWA scores and IR scores. Moreover, the GRE to GMAT score conversion will now be more challenging.

It is also important to note that despite the exam has become more feasible and crisp, many universities have introduced GMAT waivers in 2023. Here are some of these Universities.

Students are achieving higher and higher average scores each day. Therefore, many US universities have raised their bars and the GMAT cut-off scores required for admission have been set higher. Here are some universities that increased their bar in 2023.

Important Dates Regarding the GMAT Changes

These changes are to be implemented soon here are all the important dates that you need to keep in mind if you are planning to give GMAT soon. 

• Registration for GMAT Focus Edition started on 29 September 2023. 
• Subsequently, the GMAT Focus Edition will be available for test takers from the 07th of November 2023. 
• Also, the classic GMAT exam format will cease for examination from the 1st of February 2024. 
• Candidates can book the Classic GMAT exam till the test date of 31st January 2024.
