Indian Agricultural Research Institute Course Admission
The Indian Agricultural Research Institute started offering agricultural education in 1923 with a two-year PG course in various disciplines of Agricultural Botany, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Bacteriology, Horticulture, Entomology, Agronomy, Mycology and Sugarcane Breeding. The Indian Agricultural Research Institute course admission started:
- MSc and PhD programmes in 1958 when it was granted the status of a Deemed to be University.
- Till 1951, IARI was under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
- The IARI was the first higher education institution in India to adopt the course credit system of instructions, one similar to the Lady Grant College in the USA.
- Today, the IARI offers MSc and PhD courses in around 26 disciplines in New Delhi, which is its main campus, and for MSc, there are limited disciplines, in Assam and Jharkhand campuses.
The Indian Agricultural Research Institute course admissions have different criteria for the courses offered.
- For admission to MSc and MTech degree programmes, there’s a national-level entrance examination, organised by the Education Division of ICAR, after which the selected candidates are called for interview rounds and a final merit list is released by the officials to finalize admissions in MSc and MTech programmes in 26 disciplines at different campuses.
- Admission to PhD programmes is slightly different from other courses. Candidates who want to pursue a PhD degree at the IARI must appear for a written examination, which has a weightage of 80%. Candidates’ academic scores and the personal interview will contain a weightage of 10% each of the entire selection process.
- The IARI entrance exam paper will be divided into three sections or parts: Part I for General Agriculture and Part II and III will be subject-specific papers.
- Candidates’ academic scores will be calculated on the basis of the candidate’s individual performance in the exam and their matriculation certificate.
