AILET PG stands for All India Law Entrance Test for admission into postgraduate law courses. AILET PG is conducted by National Law University (NLU), Delhi. It is a national-level examination conducted for admission to various law programmes available at the National Law University (NLU).

AILET PG Admission Process

The AILET PG 2024 registration will start on 7th August 2023. Candidates who are interested in pursuing their higher education in the field of law at the National Law University are required to appear for the AILET PG entrance exam. Below we have discussed the AILET PG admission process.

  1. Online Registration

For AILET PG, candidates need to register online on the official website of NLU, Delhi. Candidates then need to log in using the credentials received on the registered email ID and complete the application form, upload the documents and pay the application fee.

  1. AILET PG Admit Card

NLU Delhi issues the admit card to the candidates who have successfully submitted their application forms within the due date. The candidates have to carry the admit card on the day of the examination. If a student forgets to carry the admit card to the exam centre on the exam day, he/she will not be allowed to take the exam.

  1. AILET PG Exam

The candidates have to appear for the AILET PG exam at the allotted centre mentioned in the admit card. As per the rules, candidates must report to the exam centre 45 minutes prior to the examination.

  1. AILET PG Result Declaration

NLU Delhi usually announces AILET PG results within a month after conducting the examination. The scorecards of candidates qualifying for the examination include details like their All India Ranks (AIRs), sectional scores as well as overall scores. 

  1. Counselling

The National Law University conducts AILET PG Counselling based on the rank list released at the time of the result. In the counselling session, qualifying candidates are allotted seats in their selected law courses based on merit. Candidates will then have to pay the admission fees by visiting the allotted campus within the stipulated time.

AILET PG Entrance Exam Dates 2024

The AILET PG entrance exam will be conducted on 10th December 2023. The results of the exam will be declared soon after the exam. Students will then be required to get admitted to the allotted universities by paying the admission fees within the stipulated time. AILET PG Syllabus 2023-24

The AILET PG 2023 exam for admission to LLM programs has already been conducted. However, a list of syllabi for the year 2024 is provided below to aid students’ preparations. The important topics for AILET PG 2024 exam for LLM admissions are given below:

AILET PG Exam Pattern 2024 

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admissions to LLM 2024 exam question paper contains two sections, i.e. Section A and B. Section A contains objective-type questions while Section B contains subjective-type questions. The weightage of Section A is 100 marks while that for Section B is 50 marks. The maximum marks for the exam are 150.

Section A

This will have 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). In section A, there will be two parts – part one will consist of 50 questions from the English Language and part two will have 50 questions from Legal Reasoning. Each question carries 1 mark and the maximum marks for Section A are 100.

Section B

In Section B, there will be 8 to 10 descriptive questions from which the candidates have to answer only 2 questions for 25 marks each.

AILET PG (LLM) Eligibility Criteria 2024

The eligibility criteria for AILET PG are determined by the National Law University, Delhi. The university releases an exam brochure each year to provide complete details of the syllabus, weightage, exam pattern and eligibility criteria. Check some of the important eligibility criteria below:

  • Candidates need to be LLB graduates from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
  • The candidates must have scored a minimum mark of 55% in the qualifying degree exam.
  • Reserved category candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category are eligible for a 5% relaxation in minimum marks. 
  • Candidates who are appearing in the final year L.L.B examination can also apply.
  • The minimum age should not be more than 22 years to apply for the AILET PG 2023.

AILET PG Reservation Criteria 2024

Like any other exam, the NLU provides some relaxation for the reserved categories for admissions through the AILET LLM exam. Check the reservation criteria for each category defined under the AILET LLM exam below.

Schedule Castes (SCs) & Schedule Tribes (STs)

To leverage the reservation provided under these two categories, the candidates will first have to submit the supporting documents issued by a competent authority at the time of admission. As per the reservation criteria, 15% of the total seats are reserved for the SC category and 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for the ST category.

If after the completion of the admission process, any seat reserved for the SC category remains vacant then, the same can be converted to the ST category and vice-versa. The seats, reserved for SCs and STs cannot be converted into any other reserved categories. However, if a sufficient number of seats reserved for the SC and ST categories remain vacant after the completion of the admission process, the same gets converted into the General category and offered to students of the General category in the order of merit.

Other Backward Class – Non-creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Reservation

As many as 22% of the total seats are reserved for the OBC-NCL category for admission at the NLUs. To obtain a seat under the OBC-NCL category, candidates must obtain a certificate from a recognised competent authority and must have been listed under the Central or Delhi State list of the OBCs. However, candidates must note their OBC category certificate must be issued by the competent authority on or after April 1, 2022.

Economically Weaker Section (EWS)

A total of 10% of seats are reserved for candidates falling under this category. To avail of a seat under this category, the candidates must present proof of income and an asset certificate issued by a recognised competent authority. Candidates must note that only the EWS certificates generated on or after April 1, 2022, will be accepted at the time of admission.

Person With Disabilities (PWD)

As per the “Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act of 2016”, the candidates belonging to the PWD category have been secured with a horizontal reservation of 5% seats at the concerned institution. Candidates under this category must provide a PWD certificate issued by the competent authority.

Kashmiri Migrants (KM)

One supernumerary seat is reserved for the Kashmiri Migrants at this institute. Kashmiri Migrants list the Kashmiri Pandits or the non-migrant Kashmiri Hindu families living in the Kashmir valley. To avail of the seat under this category, the candidates must present the supporting documents issued by the competent authority at the time of provisional admission.

Recognised Competent Authorities for Issuing the Reservation Certificates

The National Law University has defined a number of recognised competent authorities that can be referred by the students for obtaining a specific category’s reservation certificate. These competent authorities are listed here below:

  1. District Magistrate (DM), Additional DM, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Collector, Deputy Collector, City Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, First-class Stipendiary Magistrate, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Executive Magistrate and Taluk Magistrate.
  2. A revenue officer, but not below the rank of a “Tehsildaar”.
  3. Presidency Magistrate, Chief Presidency Magistrate, and Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate.
  4. A Development Officer, Administrator or the Secretary to the Administrator.

AILET PG Application Process 2023-24 

National Law University (NLU), Delhi released AILET PG 2023 application form will be available online after 7th August 2023. Candidates are advised to check their eligibility for the exam before filling out the AILET LLM 2023-24 application form. The steps required to fill AILET LLM application form are as follows:

  • The candidates have to register online by filling in the details like email id, mobile number, and date of birth.
  • The students have to select and confirm a new password for the new candidate account.
  • Then, the candidates have to select the program of study from the drop-down menu and lock the application.
  • The candidates then have to fill in the other details like personal and academic details.
  • Then the candidates have to upload the photograph and signature.
  • At last, the candidates have to make the payment for the form and then the form will be submitted.

Application Fees

The amount of application fee to be paid by the candidates of different categories was different. The General (unreserved) category candidates had to pay INR 3500 as the application fee. While candidates from all the other reserved categories had to pay only INR 1500 as the application fee. A table describing the same information is given below.

  • Self-attested copies of marks sheets of 10th and 12th board exams.
  • AILET PG Scorecard or offer letter being issued by the NLU Delhi.
  • Self-attested copies of the character certificate issued by the last school attended.
  • Self-attested copy of qualifying degree certificate (LLB).
  • Self-attested copy of transfer certificate.
  • Demand draft of Rs. 50,000/- drawn in favour of ‘The Registrar, National Law University, Delhi’, payable at New Delhi.

AILET LLM Result 2023-24

The AILET PG 2023-24 results will be declared online after the commencement of the exam. The results included the scores and rank of the candidates.
