West Town Academy

Chicago, United States

Private

West Town Academy is a cornerstone of Greater West Town Community Project, a communitarian non-profit company operational toward expansion on the West Side of Chicago. The academy initially originated as a GED program or an alternative high school for Chicago’s traditional high school dropouts and later became a fully state-recognised high school in 1998. Since then, it has been awarding diploma to ‘disenrolled’ distinctive students from the Chicago documented schools system through its alliance as a campus of Youth Connection Charter School. There are ample opportunities for students to take hands-on and exploratory elective courses and high-tech vocational training programs. WTA aims to educate and support students between the ages of 17 and 21 in order to help them become successful in the classroom, school community and life. Multi-level classes at the school are intentionally designed to meet the individual needs of every student and the faculty are state-certified and trained to provide flexible and personalized attention to all the students. Moreover, the academy offers the facility of on-site transition counsellor to assist students in navigating college admissions, career pathway identification, financial aid, apprenticeship or vocational school application process, etc. Additional support services are available for DCFS clients, parents and students with special needs. Various intramural sport activities include basketball, flag football, volleyball and softball.
