Established in the year 1955 in Yunnan Garden, Nanyang Technological University later collaborated with University of Singapore to become a National University in 1980, Singapore University further added three engineering schools along with a Department of Applied Sciences in the campus. By 2004, both the universities distinguished and became independent entities. The University offers two types of programs- Coursework and Research, under Coursework the university offers- , Design and Media, Humanities, Social Sciences, Electronic Engineering and Arts, under Research the university offers Physical Science, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Biological Science, and Humanities as well. NTU reward those working there for more than a decade with the Long-Service Awards and students along with faculty who make a significant contribution to the college. The University has two campuses one in the green Yunnan Garden covering 200 hectares and the other in Novena, popularly known as Singapore’s Medical District which is considered a home to many laboratories and researchers. It is also home to the national monument, Chinese Heritage Centre. The campus has residence for the students of the undergraduate program along with over 25 halls, it is home to over 15000 local and International students as well as 5000 faculties and research staff. It also has a noteworthy alumni list that includes names like - Lee Wung Yew (Gold Medalist in shooting), Intan Azura Mokhtar (Assistant Professor at National Institute of Education), and Dipna Lim (National hurdler).
