The University was founded in 1820, the flagship campus at Bloomington is two centuries old, there are a total of nine colleges operating under IU with the other core campus at Indianapolis offering degrees from two universities- Purdue University and Indiana University. Each campus has a credited and official 4 years graduation granting authorization. Some of the programs offered by the university include- arts and sciences, education, journalism and nursing, public affairs, international studies among the many more courses that the university offers. The other seven campus are comparatively smaller and spread across Indiana city but offer equally good opportunities. The University has also received teaching awards through the years for its distinguishing and excellent contributions to the university and the students alike. Apart from academic excellence, the university also boasts of having over 1000 free musical performances on campus ranging from contemporary to classic opera as well as ballet performances along with having a university orchestra and four museums and art galleries. The life at IU and life at Bloomington are intermingled with on campus events later spilling into the city and festivals filling the city finding their way into the campus. The alumni network at IU is also noteworthy with Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, Deepender Singh Hooda, a member of India's parliament, Michael Uslan, executive producer of the Batman films and Joshua Bell is a Grammy winner as a violinist to name a few.
