The university is situated in Belarus and is considered to be the major technical university of the area. In the year 1920 the Minsk Polytechnic University became the Belarusian State Polytechnic Institute and in the year 1991 the institute was renamed as the Belarusian State Polytechnic Academy. It was only in the year 1997 that the university was granted a leading education institution status in engineering in Belarusian educational system and finally in the year 2002 the university was finally renamed to Belarusian National Technical University. The university consists of 10 institutes which offers courses in the newest economical and technological areas. The University also houses different facilities for students for their recreation and personal development which includes cultural centres, sports grounds, student clubs, libraries, etc.
The university was given a ranking between 801 and 1000 by the QS World University ranking and the 103rd position by the EECA University Rankings. Some of the different faculties included in the university are:

There are about 16 faculties which are part of the university. Some of the notable alumni include, Gennady Novitsky who was the prime minister of Belarus from 2001 to 2003.
