Initially launched as college dei Dottori, the University of Urbino Carlo Bo officially started functioning as a university in 1506. Located in Urbino district, the university houses more than 13,000 students out of which 11,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate courses. Known for its “sustained expenditure”, the University of Urbino Carlo Bo is also one of the founding members of the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI). The Intercultural business communication and engineering geology are the two subjects which have been accoladed with the prestigious EMUNI label also. The university is best known for its research work in the field of chemical sciences, literature, History and Arts. Currently, it is also conducting research work in 10 projects funded by the Eurepoan Union. The accommodation and dining halls are administered and managed by ESRU (Regional authority for university studies). Known for its Palazzo Ducale, the city of Urbino is located on the foothills of Apennine. Anciently described as a walled city, Urbino has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage City due to its exceptional architectural beauty. Giovanna Trillini (Olympics medalist and World Champion), Giuseppe Novelli (biologist) and Mario Pappagallo (journalist) are some of the acclaimed alumni of this university.
