Established in 1884, Bangor University has maintained a high standard for academic excellence and achievement. It was in 1911, the main building of this university was established, along with a few arts and social science buildings. It was founded by quarrymen and farmers who intended to give the people of North Wales access to higher education. The college, known as the University College of North Wales, was housed in an old coaching inn and had 58 students and ten faculty members. Until 1893, when Bangor became one of the three original constituent colleges of the University of Wales, students were given degrees by the University of London. The University was founded at a historic coaching inn known as the Penrhyn Arms. The city of Bangor offered a 10-acre site overlooking the city at Penrallt for a new structure in 1903, and large funds were contributed by local residents to assist cover the costs. For the next fifteen years, the Science Departments were housed at the Penrhyn Arms. In 1926, they relocated to new purpose-made quarters, which had been built with funds raised by the North Wales Heroes Memorial. It was in 2009 that after receiving the degree-awarding powers, it started giving out degrees under its current name. The university is ranked in the top 40 in the UK for research according to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. Bangor University has also achieved a Gold Award, the highest possible ranking, in the National Teaching Excellence Framework in August 2021. 

Campus, Courses and Infrastructure

Currently, about 10,000 students are pursuing studies at the university, distributed across the 3 colleges housing 14 academic schools. The university campus stretches across Bangor. The university also has student-friendly amenities like sports facilities, learning facilities, libraries, and accommodations. In addition, it has fifty specialist research centres, across disciplines like Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. Bangor's university campus sprawls across enormous swaths of land. Wrexham also has a portion of the School of Healthcare Sciences. The site is highly accessible and has direct train connections to London, Manchester, Crewe, and Cardiff. A bus or a ferry can also be used to get to the campus. It provides several student-friendly features, such as sports facilities, instructional facilities, libraries, and dormitories. The university is comprised of three Colleges that include fourteen academic Schools as well as over fifty specialised research centres, allowing for the delivery of courses in the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. The university's residence complex includes amenities such as lounges, studios, kitchens, and workout rooms. The residence facility offered by the university consists of lounges, studios, kitchens, and fitness rooms. The university has a Commercial Services Department to take care of the catering, campus shops, event organization and food, and drinks outlets.

The quality of the academics taught here has been endorsed by the Quality Assurance Agency’s Institutional Reviews. The University has a vibrant and engaging student lifestyle with a large number of student clubs and associations. Bangor University’s research delivers social, cultural, and environmental benefits, from advances in healthcare to combatting global environmental change and finding the energy solutions of the future. Pioneering research has been recognised in Sport and Exercise Sciences; Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences, Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy; Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience; Engineering and Business & Management Studies. More than 150 UK universities and other research institutes were assessed in the exercise. Bangor University features among the top 5 universities at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2022 and also finds mention in the top 10 across 5 categories at the StudentCrowd University Awards 2022. Bangor University has worked tirelessly to generate the world's best talent. Many of this university's alumni have distinguished professions. Filmmaker Danny Boyle, actress Frances Barber, renowned chemist Colin Eaborn, musician Bill Fay, writer Tony Gillam, producer Tim Haines, actor John Ogwen, and poet R.S. Thomas are among them. This university has graduated famous physician Herbert Wilson, who is noted for his contribution to DNA structure study.

Today, they have over 10,000 students and around 2,000 members of staff. There are 6,623 full-time undergraduates and 380 part-time undergraduates in this group. In addition, the institution had 1,045 full-time postgraduates and 719 part-time postgraduates registered for the same year. Bangor University provides students with a wealth of national and international scholarship opportunities to help them with their finances. Students can apply for scholarships such as the Country Scholarship, the Bangor International Scholarship, the Sports Scholarships, and the Bangor Bursary.
