Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University is commonly known as Virginia Tech was established on 1872 was originally housed in the old Olin and Preston Institute which is now fulfilling its role as a public land-grant university and is serving the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Addison Caldwell was enrolled as the first student of this institute at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College on 1st October 1872 and after that, it has been working as a land-grant University. Now Virginia Tech has been the university's official nickname and is also used in all formal situations. The main campus of the institute is located in Blacksburg, Virginia. Virginia Tech offers 2580 undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 34,440 students both on and off the main campus. It provides 110 bachelor's degree programs and 170 masters and doctoral degree programs. It has a research list of more than $531 million. It has 1,520 faculty members from which 57percent are tenured. The ratio between students and faculty members present there is 14:1. This University holds 2,600 acres of land including 213 buildings and one airport. VPI carries nine colleges and graduate school under it and also has a corporate research center of its own. The institute has been ranked as 46th in University research in the United States. It benefits not only the state but also across the globe.
