The college was established as the Victoria University of Wellington in 1897, in the city of Wellington, in New Zealand. The university is named after the Queen Victoria. The University of Auckland is ranked 3rd country in the year 2003. Victoria University of Wellington was established by an act of parliament as the constituent college of the University of New Zealand. They have over 9 schools and faculties, which include faculty of architecture and design; Victoria business school; faculty of education; faculty of graduate research; faculty of engineering; faculty of law; faculty of humanities and social sciences, faculty of science; Toihuarewa (which is a separate pan-University Faculty equivalent). The university is known to have some of the famous research institutes worldwide, including MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology,Ferrier Research Institute,Victoria University Coastal Ecology Laboratory, Centre for Strategic Studies New Zealand, Adam Art Gallery, New Zealand Electronic Text Centre, and various other research institute. Their library was established in the year 1899, which is spread to four locations, Law Library, Architecture and Design Library, Kelburn Library, and Commerce Library. At current they have around 16,787 undergraduate students and around 4,829 postgraduate students that makes a total of 22,273 students, out of which 3,400 students are international students. 15% of the total students in the university are international students.
