In the Estonian city of Tartu, there is a university called the University of Tartu. It is Estonia's national university and the only classical university in the nation. Baron Johan Skytte, the Governor-General of Swedish Livonia, Ingria, and Karelia established it in 1632 under the name Academia Gustaviana. The mentality and positive attitudes of the Estonian national university's students, academic personnel, and researchers helped to retain its atmosphere and revive the University of Tartu as the university of the Republic of Estonia. 1989-1992 were years of structural reform, restoring academic content and old traditions. The University of Tartu can look back on its 370-year history, which is symbolised by the statue of Gustav II Adolf, which was re-erected in Royal Square on St. George's Day in 1992 (created by Elisabeth Tebelius-Myren in 1991 from a plaster figure by Fogelberg) as a symbol of the continuity of alma mater Tartuensis. It has affiliations with CBUR, EUA, Coimbra Group, Utrecht Network, and Atomium Culture Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The University of Tartu's (UT) main campus is situated in Tartu, Estonia's second-largest city and the country's student capital as well as its intellectual and youthful capital. UT owns over 100 buildings, including 3 museums and a botanical garden. The Von Bock House is one of many university buildings and student dorms that have lately been built or renovated.
