History, Affiliations and Rankings

Located in Scotland, the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow’s second-oldest university. The public research university was founded in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute. It is also the first technological university in the United Kingdom. The institute received its university status in 1964 under Principal Samuel Curran, internationally respected nuclear physicist. The university is affiliated with ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities), EQUIS (EFMD Quality Improvement System) and IPEM (Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine). Taking its name from the historic Kingdom of Strathclyde, University of Strathclyde is the first university to receive the University of the Year title by the Times Higher Education (2012 and 2019). QS World University Ranking 2022 places the institute at #302, while according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, the University ranks in the bracket #401-500.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses 

The University of Strathclyde took over Jordanhill College in 1993, placing the university at two campuses- The John Anderson Campus and the Jordanhill Campus. In 2012, the Jordanhill Campus was closed and everything moved to the John Anderson campus. The campus stretches over a 500-acres with world-class facilities. It houses the massive Royal College Building, Livingstone Tower, James Weir Building and Andersonian Library. The university has many societies and clubs for students to join. It offers high-class quality education and encourages innovation and research. The school currently has four main faculties based on academic fields and subjects. They are the Faculty of Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Strathclyde Business School.

Accomplishments and Alumni

The University of Strathclyde is a multi-award-winning university and has been placed at #4 for Student Satisfaction in the UK by 2021 National Student Survey. It is also a two-time winner of the prestigious of the title of the University of the Year for the years 2012 and 2019 by the Times Higher Education Awards. Almost 90% of the research conducted at the University was recognized as "internationally excellent" or "world leading" in REF 2021. The University of Strathclyde was also a recipient of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2019. The university has produced many innovators and explorers who have contributed to the scientific world. It has an alumni network of over 183,000 from around the world. Some of the most famous alumni include, Tom Hunter (Scottish Businessman), Elish Angiolini (former Lord Advocate), and Chris Sawyer (Scottish video game designer).
