History, Affiliations and Rankings 

The University of Plymouth is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom, with more than 23,000 students, including approximately 2,000 international students from more than 100 countries, enrolled. Its roots go back to the Plymouth School of Navigation, which was founded in 1862 and became a university in 1992. It is now the only post-1992 university with its own school of medicine and has strong partnerships with other universities and institutions in the southwest. The university is accredited by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Channels Island Universities Consortium, and the European University Association (EUA). According to the QS World University Rankings 2022, the university is ranked between #601-650 in the world, between #401-500 as per Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, and #541 according to the US News & World Reports' Best Global University Rankings 2022. According to the Complete University Guide 2022 and the Guardian University League Table 2022, the university ranks at #69 and #41 in the UK. 

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses 

The university has two campuses. The main university campus of the university is located in the centre of Plymouth. It has academic buildings, libraries, laboratories, and student residence halls. The main campus provides for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, Faculty of Science and Engineering, and the Faculty of Health, as well as the University of Plymouth Students’ Union. The North Plymouth campus is home to the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, and School of Biomedical and Healthcare Sciences. Each of these schools offers a wide range of degree programs in various disciplines of sciences, medicine and health sciences, social sciences and arts, and humanities. The University of Plymouth has extensive programs in the fields of Computing, Civil Engineering, Geography, and Environmental Sciences, and Art and Design also rank highly at the national level. 

Accomplishments & Alumni 

Plymouth received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2012 for its global reputation in Marine and Maritime education and research. 11 topics were recently ranked among the top ten in the United Kingdom for student satisfaction. It encourages cultural diversity by offering courses to students from across the globe. This university has a list of notable alumni who have gained immense recognition in their respective fields.
