The University of New South Wales was established in the mid 19th century as an open research education institution. It was developed with the motive to meet the requirements of the latest technology. Back then, the university was called the New South Wales University of Technology. The Parliament of New South Wales offered statutory status to the university during the same period of the century. In 1949, the university had enrolled only 46 students. However, it has founded 2 colleges so far: Wollongong and Newcastle. The statutory status of the university helped it get the funding for the construction of the university's buildings. At present, the main campus of the institution has 2 research centers where around 400 researchers exist. Currently, there are 6 well-known faculties within the university: Law, Arts & Design, Medicine, Business, Arts & Social Sciences, and Engineering & Science. Apart from these 6 faculties, the university also comprises fitness centers, theatre halls, and music rooms that are enabled to students as well as the general public. The university provides graduate, undergraduate, and doctoral degree programs across various disciplines. Students at the university get an opportunity to choose from a wide range of subjects so that they can opt for what they like the most. In addition to this, experienced faculty members and professors are always there to ensure whether students are getting practical knowledge or not. Some of the notable alumni of the university include Mark Bouris, John M. Green, Usman Khwaja, Mehdi Ghazazanfari, and Bob Bellar.
