A public research university situated in Freiburg, the University of Freiburg officially known as the Albert Ludwig University was founded in the year 1457 by Archduke Albert VI of Austria and later it was handed over to the Austrian House of Habsburg in the year 1490. Freiburg is the fifth oldest university in Germany that has been professing disciplines sucha as natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The university comprises of 11 different faculties and attracts local as well as out-of-state students from different countries. 18.2% of the total number is constituted by Foreign students. Today there are about 430 professors, 3,695 academic employees and 8,644 non-academic employees at the University.It is providing employment to more than thousands of people. It was awarded excellent positions in 2005 and 2009 by Humboldt Ranking. The university has a variety of graduate education and research opportunities. It also offers German language courses for foreign students.
