On March 27, 1871, the state legislature approved the establishment of a land-grant university to be named Arkansas Industrial University. The federal Morrill Land Grant Act awarded Arkansas properties that could be sold and the proceeds utilised to fund the establishment of the institution. The establishment of the university also fulfilled the requirement of the Arkansas Constitution of 1868, which required the General Assembly to "establish and maintain a State University." The University of Arkansas is an accredited institution of higher education, following a decision by the Institutional Actions Council of the Higher Learning Commission. The Times Higher Education ranked them in the bracket #601-800 in the category of World University Rankings 2022.  It is ranked #1001-1200 in QS Global World Rankings 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

On the western edge of Fayetteville, Arkansas, the University of Arkansas campus sprawls across hilltops. The National Register of Historic Places has listed 11 of the 378 buildings on campus, with the majority of those in the historic centre being designated as contributing properties to the University of Arkansas Campus Historic District. The Fulbright Peace Fountain and Sculpture, located in the heart of the university's historic campus core, is a showpiece of the university's outdoor art collection. The university offers over 200-degree programmes, many of which are among the best in the country. There are 70 bachelor's degrees, as well as dozens of master's and doctoral programmes to choose from.

Nearly 29,068 (Fall 2021) students are enrolled in the University of Arkansas, out of which 1,200 are international students. The majority of the overseas students are from India, Panama, China, Bolivia and Saudi Arabia. The university has 1,443 total faculty members and about 2,800 staff members. The university has a student-teacher ratio of 19:1,  which allows for ample one-on-one attention and mentoring. For students to get engaged in and connect and network with other students and professionals in specific areas of interest, the institution provides more than 20 clubs and organisations. The university hosts a number of webinars, seminars, and events throughout the year to assist students in obtaining employment.
