History, Affiliations and Rankings
Established in 1940, University De Las Americas Puebla in Mexico and was formerly known as Mexico City College. It was founded to show the reflection of the fraternity between the United States of America and Mexico. In 1966 the university shifted to Cholula municipality, at the Santa Catarina Mártir Hacienda, situated between the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes. In 1985, the institution became independent from the Civil Association in Mexico City, and the name was changed to Fundación Universidad de las Américas, Puebla. University De Las Americas Puebla has affiliations with Canada – Goodman School of Business – Brock University, Elon University – Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, Brazil – Fundação Getulio Vargas, France – NEOMA Business School – Reims Campus, Germany – ESB Business School at Reutlingen University, and Ireland – Dublin City University. University De Las Americas Puebla ranks #801 - 1000 in World University Rankings by QS.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The campus has about 38 buildings over 180 acres, situated 12 miles west of Puebla's center, and less than 2 miles south of Cholula's downtown. The state-of-the-art includes amenities like six classroom buildings, two laboratory buildings, three on-campus residences, one off-campus residence, two soccer fields, one football field, one baseball field, two gymnasiums, tennis courts, two cafeterias, one library, 1 Student Center, 1 Auditorium, Offices, and Professors' Housing. The campus is built on what was initially known as the Hacienda de Santa Catarina Mártir. The university offers over 70+ programs through its five faculties: Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Science, Social Science, Engineering, Business, and Economics.
Accomplishments and Alumni
University De Las Americas Puebla has accreditations from SACS - Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission, and IFT - Institute of Food Technologies. The university has about 25% of professors who are members of the National System of Researchers. The University's research work is shown in scientific publications. Between 2009 and 2011 there were 364 research projects produced. There have been about 330 publications, which include media articles, refereed articles, conference papers, book chapters, and theses. Some of the notable alumni of the institute are Blanca Alcalá Ruiz a Mexican politician, Jesús Alí de la Torre is a Mexican politician, and Martha Érika Alonso Hidalgo a Mexican politician of the National Action Party (PAN).
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
University De Las Americas Puebla has over 8,000 students on-campus, and about 250 are international students. They have about 760 faculty members full-time and 25% of them are members of the National System of Researchers. About 1,100 international students come to the institute as exchange students. It provides a multicultural atmosphere to its students, including the 55 nationalities represented on campus due to its exchange agreements with about 40 higher education institutions. The success of the institute alumni is noticeable, 50% of graduates got placed before graduation, and more than 90% of graduates choose to have a job after 6 months of graduation. Volkswagen, Faurencia, Audi, PepsiCo, Deloitte, Amazon, EY, Mondelez International and other brands recruit top talent from the University de Las Americas Puebla.
