Founded in 1846 as a private medical college, the university was merged with de facto flagship college, State University of New York. The State University of New York at buffalo is a comprehensive public research university which enrolls 31, 508 students across 13 colleges thus making it New York's largest public university. The university was also elected to the Association of American Universities in 1989. The Campus was awarded the "Environmental Champion Award" in 2015 by the EPA and ranked one of the top 50 "green colleges and universities" nationally and is aiming at becoming climate neutral by 2030, the university is spread across 3 campuses- South, North and Downtown. The university also offers around 205 master's, 100 bachelors, 10 professional and 84 doctoral programmes. It is also home to the largest state operated Dental, Medical, Education, Engineering, Business, Pharmacy along with the College of Arts and Sciences and the only state architecture and urban planning and law school. The university is also the alma mater of some of the finest alumni networks, the alumni include Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prizewinners, a prime minister, astronauts, Academy Award winners, Emmy Award winners, Fulbright Scholars, and Rhodes Scholars as well as three billionaires.
