Established in 1986 as an institution of higher education in Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Teknologi Brunei specializes in the areas of Business, Engineering and Computer Technology. Earlier, it offered only Higher National Diploma programmes which were aimed at training paraprofessionals for the industry. In 2008, it was given the status of the university and has now established strategic partnerships with industries and universities around the world and has also intensified research activities. The university embraces and cultivates the value of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) and aspires to uphold Islamic faith and patriotism. UTB’s main focus of research is in the areas of Oil and Gas, Green Technology and Water. The university offers various programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum & Chemical Engineering, Computer Network security, Creative Computing, Economics, Accounting and Management, Applied Mathematics, among others. Further, UTB has a total of 4 departments, i.e. the academic programs are offered by the Faculty of Engineering, the School of Business, the School of Computing and Informatics and School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics. There are 1,439 students and 134 academic staff in UBD. The university is widely known in the international arena.
