Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León or The Autonomous University of Nuevo León is the 3rd largest Mexican university in terms of students population and the highest number of academic programs. The university was established in 1933 as the University of Nuevo León. UANL has 7 distinct campuses with its main campus housing the administration building, Colleges of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Law, Philosophy and Public Accounting, football stadium and various sports facilities. Other campuses include the Mederos Humanities and Fine Arts campus, the Health Sciences Campus, the Marin Agronomy Center, the Linares Earth Sciences, the Escobedo Agricultural Sciences Campus and the Forestry campus. Moreover, the university also has Sabinas Hidalgo facilities which includes the extensions of the Colleges of Business and Law. The institution has 84 libraries housing 2,238,000 library volumes, open-air stadium, 27 research facilities, 25 students computer centres, 9 main campus bookstores and 53 cafeterias. UANL also has a symphony orchestra and a band of regional music, El Tigre. The university is popular for its American football team known as the ‘Tigers’.
