Rhode Island School of Design, a private Art and Design college, was established in 1877 in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. The foundation of Rhode Island School of Design was laid by the Centennial Women who raised the fund for their own cause but donated some amount of money to establish the school of art and design in Rhode Island. In March 1877, the Rhode Island General Assembly passed an Act to Incorporate the Rhode Island School of Design with a purpose of aiding in the cultivation of the arts of design. Rhode Island School of Design is committed to offer the systematic training to students in the practice of Art, in order that they may understand its principles, give instruction to others, or become artists.
Today, Rhode Island School of Design offers wide range of programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma levels in History, Philosophy, Social Science, Liberal Arts, History of Arts and Design, Architecture, Film, Animaton, Apparel Design, Ceramics, Furniture Design, Jewelry, Metalsmithing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Textile, Sculpture, Drawing, Computation and Digital+Media. It also offers certification level programs in Collegiate Teaching in Art + Design and History of Art and Design.
Today, the main campus of Rhode Island School of Design is located at the base of College Hill in Providence. RIDS has also made its presence in a form of contiguous with the Brown University campus. There are 2,500 students enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design with a presence of the academic staff of more than 600 members. According to the QS Ranking, Rhode Island School of Design is ranked #4 in Schools of Art and Design ranking in the world in 2019.
