Northumbria University, formerly known as Newcastle Polytechnic, is an open university that was established in 1969 as a result of the merger of three regional colleges: Rutherford College of Technology, the College of Art & Industrial Design, and the Municipal College of Commerce in the UK. The university was granted the status of the university in the year 1992. The university places a strong emphasis on science and industry. Moreover, Northumbria Institution's international position as a prominent British university is based on a unique blend of great academic research and teaching, innovative programmes, traditional values, and social and cultural diversity. The University of Newcastle upon Tyne has grown into a thriving regional, national, and worldwide institution since its founding in the historic city of Newcastle upon Tyne. It works closely with a variety of well-known organizations, including the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the International Centre for Life, and the BINUS Design School. Also, more than 560 employers and 60 professional bodies have sponsored or accredited the University’s programmes. Globally, the University of Massachusetts, Amherst has been ranked between #701-750 and between #401-500 by the QS World University Rankings 2022 and THE World University Rankings 2022 respectively. Furthermore, the university also ranks #49 in the Complete University Guide University League Tables 2022 and #41 in the Guardian's the best UK universities 2022 – rankings. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Northumbria University is regarded as one of the top 10 in the United Kingdom and is one of the UK's biggest and most popular universities, with over 26,000 students from over 140 countries. It has a long tradition that goes back to the late 1800s through its constituent colleges. Northumbria University has spent more than £250 million on its campuses over the last decade to equip students with a world-class education. The university's estate in Newcastle is divided into two campuses, one in the city centre and the other three miles out at Coach Lane. Accomplishments and Alumni

Recently, a Northumbria University researcher was just named a finalist in the STEM for Britain Awards 2022, which will be hosted in March at the House of Commons. During British Science Week, Dr Kirsty Lindsay, a physiology and physiotherapy expert from Northumbria University's Aerospace Medicine and Rehabilitation (AMR) Laboratory, will present her study on astronaut health and clinical treatment for patients on Earth to a panel of judges in Parliament. Furthermore, Northumbria University has announced a new scholarship programme to support women from minority ethnic backgrounds who want to study engineering, which is being funded by leading engineering consultancy Rolton Group. Victoria Pendleton (British jockey), Steve Cram (British athlete), Jony Ive (British-American designer), Vera Baird (Former Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner) are a few among the long list of notable alumni of the university.
