History, Affiliations and Rankings

North Park University's history and tradition can be traced back to 1891 in a Minneapolis church basement (Evangelical Covenant Church) when seminars in language and commerce provided Swedish immigrants with the tools they needed to succeed in America. With the help of a property offer in Chicago, the school relocated to the North Park area, which was then just outside the city boundaries. It became a university with a theological seminary, in 1997. At North Park, excellence implies not only a deep tradition in the liberal arts and Christian faith but a spirit of reaching out to serve and learn from the dynamic community around it. The University’s academic programs and learning environment are informed by three institutional values: Christian – Nurture faith, balancing commitment and freedom, City-centered – Engage Chicago as a dynamic place of learning and service, Intercultural – Embrace and value all people, celebrate the global cultural tapestry, and support the reconciling mandate of the Christian gospel. The university has been ranked between 401-500 by THE World University Rankings for the year 2022.

Campus, Courses and Infrastructure

North Park University's main campus is easily accessible by road, train, or bus, and is located in a residential area on Chicago's Northwest Side. Courses at the School of Professional Studies are available at two convenient campus sites in Chicago and Grayslake. Furthermore, several courses, majors, and credential programmes can be completed fully online. Choose from face-to-face classes on one or both campuses, online classes, or a mix of all three.
