Marshall University, founded as Marshall Academy in 1837 and is named after Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Marshall, was one of West Virginia's first public schools of higher learning in the USA (1755-1835). Marshall College was founded in 1858 and was granted university status in 1961. Marshall University advances the public good through innovative, accredited educational programs. Marshall University is accredited by HLC in its totality, and HLC accreditation covers all of the university's programmes. In addition to the HLC certification, some of our University's academic programmes are accredited and/or recognised by their own specialised certifying agencies. The U.S. News & World Report has recognized and listed the university under the Best National Universities and Top Public Schools in the United States for 2022.

Infrastructure, Campus and Courses

Marshall University is a regional university with a significant presence in the Tri-State area of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio. It also provides services to communities across the United States and worldwide. The Huntington-Ashland-Ironton metropolitan area has a population of 365,000 people. Huntington Campus, Marshall Medical Center, Forensic Science Center, Visual Arts Center, School of Physical Therapy, School of Pharmacy, South Charleston Campus, Mid-Ohio Valley Center, Teays Valley Regional Center and Erma Byrd Higher Education Center together make Marshal University. The university has nine undergraduate colleges, three graduate colleges, and a regional cancer research centre at the university. It has around 60 undergraduate programmes, 56 graduate programmes, and 35 graduate certificate programmes to choose from. Biology, Business Administration, Forensic Science, and Education, General are the most popular courses offered by the university.

Accomplishments and Alumni

Marshal University is ranked #45 in the 2016 edition of Best Regional Colleges. The university provides undergraduate and graduates courses in a variety of subjects of interest. There are around 10 clubs and 32 intramural sports that are sponsored by the university. The teams are extremely competitive, and some of the university's players have gone on to professional sports. The Marshall family's heart and soul are the university's alumni. They went on to become CEOs of Fortune 500 businesses, Pulitzer Prize winners, and titans of industry, research, education, and the arts. Few notable alumni that have come out of the University are Randy Moss - American professional football player, Conchata Ferrell – actress, Hal Greer - American basketball player, Byron Leftwich –  American football coach and more. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Marshall aims to foster a more varied and inclusive campus environment through encouraging cultural knowledge, collegiality, and cultivating tolerance for persons of different backgrounds and cultures. Marshall University's student-teacher ratio is roughly 19:1, which means that over 44% of classrooms have fewer than 20 students. This is ideal for one-on-one connection with your professors, and your specific requirements will be met. At the Marshall University campus, at least 42 nations are represented. China, India, and Saudi Arabia are the countries with the greatest on-campus populations. Marshall University has 455 international students on campus, with 159 of them being undergraduates.
