Established in the year 1835, Lumiere University, Lyon 2 is a public university and owes its affiliation to its older counterpart, University of Lyon. The university offers an array of undergraduate courses ranging from three-year courses to eight-year long bachelor’s degree programs. Students can choose from a plethora of specializations in three streams of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. The university has two campuses, i.e. the Berges du Rhône' campus and the Porte des Alpes' campus. The campus at Berges du Rhône'is located on the left bank of the river Rhone and is also the head offices of the Lumiere University Lyon 2. Further, the campus at Porte des Alpes' is situated on the south-eastern outskirts of the city, in Bron and Saint-Priest.
The Digital Work Environment is also introduced by the university in 2003 as part of a pilot program promoting the intensive use of Information and Communication in improving learning experience. Further, Lyon 2 Lumiere University is one of the foremost institutions to implement the European Higher Education scheme from the academic year of 2004. The courses offered at the university are tailored under the scope of LMD system, i.e. comprising of three consecutive level of bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree.
