Keele University was established in 1949 by Lord Lindsay, who was the then Vice Chancellor of Oxford University, when the UK was still recovering from the after-effects of the Second World War. The University itself was founded as the University College of North Staffordshire and received its Charter as the University of Keele in 1962. With this, it became the first new University of the 20th century and today, it is the largest campus University in the country with over 10,000 students studying across a beautiful estate of 600 acres at the heart of Staffordshire. An academic and research powerhouse, the University is a leading force in resolving the challenges of the 21st century. Situated on a beautiful 630-acres estate in Staffordshire, Keele University is a rural campus close to the village of Keele and comprises extensive woodlands, small lakes and Keele Hall in the historic Staffordshire Potteries heartland. Located in North Staffordshire, Keele's historic campus consists of many 19th-century architectural features such as the Keele Hall predating the concrete and red-brick buildings of the modern university.
