Keele University was established in 1949 by Lord Lindsay, who was the then Vice Chancellor of Oxford University, when the UK was still recovering from the after-effects of the Second World War. The University itself was founded as the University College of North Staffordshire and received its Charter as the University of Keele in 1962. With this, it became the first new University of the 20th century and today, it is the largest campus University in the country with over 10,000 students studying across a beautiful estate of 600 acres at the heart of Staffordshire. An academic and research powerhouse, the University is a leading force in resolving the challenges of the 21st century. Keele University is affiliated with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, European Universities Association, Universities UK, Midlands Innovations, and UWM. QS World University Rankings gave it a global rank of #751, Times Higher Education Rankings gave it a global rank in the range #501-600, and US News and World Report gave it a global rank of #908 for the year 2022. 

Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses

Situated on a beautiful 630-acres estate in Staffordshire, Keele University is a rural campus close to the village of Keele and comprises extensive woodlands, small lakes and Keele Hall in the historic Staffordshire Potteries heartland. Located in North Staffordshire, Keele's historic campus consists of many 19th-century architectural features such as the Keele Hall predating the concrete and red-brick buildings of the modern university. The campus has Science and Business enterprise parks, and conference centres. It is home to the Earth Science Education Unit (ESEU). Keele's academic activities are organized into 3 Faculties and 15 Schools, which are, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The University offers taught courses at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, along with Foundation courses, Postgraduate Research programs in over 20 distinct subject areas, ranging from English and Creative Writing, Sociology, Criminology to Bioengineering, Medicine, Law, and Music, Film and Media. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Since its establishment 71 years ago, Keele University has had a long history of accomplishments. Keele took home the top prize of Global Sustainability Institution of the Year (Large Institution) at the 2020 Green Gown awards, which also saw success for Dr Katherine Haxton, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, who won the Sustainability Champion (Staff) award. The University consistently ranks Top 10 in England for Student Satisfaction and Student Experience. In the 2020 Times Higher Education Awards, Keele University was shortlisted among 6 other universities in the UK for the prestigious University of the Year Award. Further, research at Keele was recognized as “world-leading” or of “international importance” by the REF 2014. It is also among the UK's Top 10 for Postgraduate Research opportunities. Keele University is a global community with a massive alumni network of 1,00,000+ spanning 160+ countries. Many notable alumni like Madeleine Moon (Labour MP for Bridgend), Lynda Waltho (Labour MP for Stourbridge), and Paul Darke (Academic, Artist, and Disability Rights Activist) graduated from Keele University. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Over 10% of the student body of Keele University comprises international students. More than 1,000 foreign students from over 120 countries attend the University every year. It is from a total population of more than 10,000 students. The Career Service Center of Keele University offers many resources to the students and alumni for connecting with potential employers and creating a better CV and a Resume. The University hosts many career fairs for students to interact with employers, to the effect that 96% of Keele’s graduates are in further study or employed within 6 months of graduation. HSBC, Barclays, EY, Deloitte and Amazon are some of the organizations where Keele University alumni primarily work.
