HEC Montreal was founded in 1907 as a Canadian business school located in Montreal. It was Canada's first business and management school, founded by the Metropolitan Montreal Board of Trade. The EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), the Association of MBAs (AMBA), and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) have all given their stamp of approval. Universities Canada, the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE), and the Canadian Bureau for International Education are all affiliated with the school (CBIE).

The school's main building is located on the Cote-Sainte-Catherine Campus. The building, which opened in 1996, includes cutting-edge classrooms with advanced technology and services. The business school provides graduate undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the field of bachelor of business administration, master of business administration, masters of science in administration, master of management and doctorate in administration. In addition to these, the business school also offers a joint executive MBA program in collaboration with McGill University. In 2016 the business school was ranked 17th worldwide by Forbes among non us business schools. The endowment value of the HEC Montreal is CAD 127 million.
