Founded in 1887, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a public, historically black university in Tallahassee, Florida. It is located on the highest geographical hill in the Tallahassee. The main president, Thomas DeSaille Tucker and lawmaker Thomas Van Rensselaer Gibbs, guided the school's start including its move from Copeland Street to its present area. The university is a member institution of State University System of Florida and is accredited to award baccalaureate masters and doctoral degrees by the Commission on College of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Despite the fact that the "A&M" in its name represents Agricultural and Mechanical, the college offers around 64-degree programs across several disciplines. The university’s School of Architecture and Engineering is tied with 7 other architecture-related schools.
