Established in 1925, Emily Carr University of Art and Design was formerly known as Vancouver School of Decorative and School Arts. Emily Carr University was the first institution in British Columbia, Canada to offer professional programs in Arts, design, and media. In 1978, the institute's name was changed to Emily Carr University giving a tribute to a Canadian artist, Emily Carr. In 2008, the institution received university status. The Emily Carr University has academic affiliations with the Canadian Bureau for International Education and the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design. The Emily Carr University ranks #24 in World University Ranking by subject by the QS.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

Emily Carr University has its main campus in Vancouver and also has two satellite campuses. The main campus, located in Vancouver is really beautiful, with state-of-the-art buildings, green, and parking spaces. The institute has excellent academic facilities, with amenities like smart classrooms, laboratories, and studios coupled with modern technologies and high-tech laboratories. Emily Carr University offers 11 bachelor’s, 2 master’s, professional certificates, teen programs, and specialty programs through their four faculties with specializations in art, design, media, social science, sculpture, illustration, photography, communication design, and visual arts

Accomplishments and Alumni 

According to the QS Rankings 2021, Emily Carr University is the only university in the top 50 worldwide. In 2014, the institution became the first arts and design institution in Canada, to have received Canada Research Chairs. The notable alumni of the institute are Douglas Coupland - Canadian Novelist, Designer, and Visual Artist, Stan Douglas - Canadian Artist and Annie Liu - Hong Kong based Taiwanese actress.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Emily Carr University has over 2,000 full-time students on-campus at the institute. About 1,900 active non-credit students. The institute has international students coming from 35 nations and top-quality researchers coming from various top universities. The institute has a department for the inclusion and growth of students coming from aboriginal communities and also has an education support program for the funds' contribution to students of color and indigenous communities. The male-female ratio is 24:76 at the institute. The Career Services and Guidance Team at the institute usually takes care of the fact that students are aware of their future opportunities.
