The Delft University of Technology, popularly known as TU Delft, is the oldest and largest technical university located in the Netherlands. In 1842, it was established as a Royal Academy to facilitate the education of civil engineers. Eventually in 1864, it rapidly expanded its education curriculum and became a polytechnic school. It was in 2005 that it gained full university rights. In 2019, the university was ranked as one of the top 20 best universities for engineering and technology internationally and received the highest rank in the Netherlands. In the QS World Rankings 2021, DU Delft University occupies an overall position of 57.
The university campus spreads over an area of around 161 hectares. The university campus is larger than Delft's city center and is considered one amongst the largest university campuses worldwide. The campus is known for its scenic and infrastructural availability like its green spaces along with an extensive network for cycle tracks and walking trails. The campus also serves food for students and visitors. There are Restaurants, parks, botany gardens, simulators, propulsion and dynamics labs. It also produces and hosts several technological programs, competitions, media programs, Arenas, tours, marathons and lot more. The students are given full educational benefits for their next level knowledge.
TU Delft offers a wide variety of courses through its three degrees - bachelors, masters and doctorate. In total, it offers 16 bachelors and 33 master programs. The BSc and MSc programs are all accredited by the NVAO (the Dutch and Flemish Accreditation Organization), and TU Delft also passed its institutional audit on quality assurance.
TU Delft has made its marks according to industry standards over the past few years. It is associated with prestigious groups NVAO accreditation. It also has an extensive list of distinguished alumni members like Nobel prize winners Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff and Simon van der Meer along with Dutch industrialist Gerard Leonard Frederik Philips.
Currently, the university caters to the demands of over 19,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, more than 3,300 scientists, through its faculty of more than 2,200 support and management staff. Ever since its establishment, TU Delft has been encouraging student diversity at its campus by promoting active enrollments of international students every year. Justus & Louise Van Effen Excellence Scholarships are financed by the legacy of Justus and Louise van Effen. Mr. van Effen studied at TU Delft in the 1940’s and strongly believed technological developments will contribute to solving societal issues.
