Founded as a higher education institution in 1922, the College of San Mateo is a community college situated at the northern corridor of the Silicon Valley. Designed by architect John Carl Warneke, the campus is spread across an area of 153 acres in the scenic town of San Mateo, California. The college is a part of the San Mateo Community College District and has a student population of over 10,000 day, evening and weekend students. It offers a wide range of programs for university transfer, career preparation and advancement as well as professional and personal development. Further, a 2-year associate program in Arts (AA) and associate degree in Science (AS) is provided with the aim to help students transfer into a bachelor’s degree course in a university/college of their choice. College of San Mateo also offers skill-based certificate programs and various additional courses including POST (California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training), Technical Preparation - CTE Transitions, Firefighter I Academy and Emergency Medical Technician training. A plethora of online courses are also available at the college for students across the globe. Further, the campus also has its own community radio named as KCSM-FM 91 which is authorized by the San Matero County Community College District and has an audience of 2,00,000 listeners.
