History, Affiliations and Rankings
The City University of Hong Kong was established in 1984 as the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong and received full university status in 1994. It is one of the eight statutory universities in Hong Kong. The University is affiliated with the International Astronomical Union (IAU), Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL), Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), EMFD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and University Grants Commission (UGC). With its consistent drive for creating positive change, City Unversity has managed to claim rank #53 in the QS World University Rankings 2022 while it has been ranked #151 in THE World University Rankings 2022 making it one of the top universities in Hong Kong for foreign students.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Situated at the heart of Kowloon Tong, City Unversity has two clusters of quarters available for visitors - the Wong Fung Ling Hall and City Unversity Lodge in the Academic Exchange Building. The University has state-of-the-art facilities available for the convenience of the students. These include the Run Run Shaw Library, Chan Feng Men-ling Chan Shuk-lin Language Center, Activity Venues, Sports & Recreation Facilities, Joint Sports Centre, Health Care, Administrative Information Management System (AIMS), Apps and Computers and Internet. Its multicultural and vibrant campus promotes integrated living and learning. The University offers research degrees, professional doctorates, and taught postgraduate programs along with bachelor's degree programs in Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Creative Media.
Accomplishments and Alumni
With qualified faculty from around the world, City Unversity brings a wealth of research and professional experience to its programmes. Among these, 14 faculty members have been named as Highly Cited Researchers for 2020 by Clarivate and have ranked #1 in Hong Kong among the Top 100 Worldwide Universities to be granted US Utility Patents. Further, City Unversity is supremely recognized among the universities in Hong Kong and ranks #1 in QS World University Rankings for the maximum citations per faculty for the period of 2017-21. With its dynamic curriculum and global exposure, City Unversity has produced notable personalities across fields. The CEO of Christfund Securities and legislative councillor, Christopher Cheung, a noted painter, Matthew Wong and David Chung Wai-Keung, the Undersecretary for Innovation and Technology Bureau among several others have graduated from the City Unversity.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
To ensure diversity within the campus, the university has some teams and societies in place, like Global Mixer (G-mixer) that helps foreign students assimilate into the local culture and develop a sense of belonging to the local community. Further, the International Friends Club (IFC), a student buddy programme designed to support inbound and outbound exchange students at City Unversity, fosters cultural integration through various cultural activities. Senior Managers and HRM Professionals have delivered guest talks at City Unversity, giving students the opportunity to learn from and socialize with corporate professionals. In recent years, City Unversity has organized talks with representatives from Microsoft, Pfizer Pharmaceutical Group, Choie Holding Ltd., INSEAD, Sharp HKG Ltd. and more. Apart from these visiting companies, City Unversity also gives students the opportunity to intern at reputed local brands like B & W Far East Publicity Ltd., Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., Eaton Hotel, Hong Kong Seibu Ltd. and more.
