Canisius College was founded in Buffalo, New York in the year 1870 and is a private Jesuit college. It is named after St. Peter Canisius and was found by Jesuits of Germany. John J. Hurley is the President of the Canisius College. It has in total 368 staff out of which 174 is full time whereas 194 are part-time. It has approximately 3464 students in which 2398 are Undergraduate students and 1066 are postgraduate students. It is also known as Golden Griffins/ Lady Griffins. More than 100 undergraduate minors and majors are offered and around 34 master's programs are also offered. Academic affiliations of Canisius College are ACCU, NAICU, and AJCU. Canisius College sponsors 20 NCAA Division I Athletic teams and is also a member of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Sports for men include ice hockey, baseball, and golf. Women's sports include softball and volleyball. Except for the men's ice hockey team which competes with Atlantic Hockey Association rest all sports are members of MAAC. For Buffalo All-Americans of the National Football League, the College was the first home field This college is a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) hub for Western New York. Canisius College also has its student-run media with a weekly newspaper named The Griffin which replaced The Canisian in 1933 and in 2013 went online.
