California State University was established in 1960 on 346 acres of land which were once a part of the first private land grant in Southern California; Rancho San Pedro. Juan Jose Dominguez had received the original grant of 75,000 acres in 1784 from King Carlos III of Spain from which most parts were sold or developed and the remaining portion remained under the name of Dominguez descendants. This site known as the Dominguez Hills after the name of the family was chosen for the University. CSUDH has 100,000 alumni all total, half of whose continue to live within 25 miles of the campus and share knowledge & experience with the community. Their graduates are also determined to involve actively in the Alumni Association. The University enrolls around 14,700 students including 12,600 undergraduates and 2,100 postgraduates. It offers 46 courses for Bachelor degrees and 23 for Master degrees. It holds five colleges within it i.e. College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business Administration and Public Policy, College of Extended and International Education, College of Health, Human Services and Nursing, and College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences. CSUDH aims of being recognized as a top-performing Model Urban University in America. It reaches out to students both locally and globally to pull up the educational and technical boundaries.
