History, Affiliations and Rankings
Auezov South Kazakhstan State University is a public tertiary university in the rural areas of Shymkent, southern Kazakhstan. The university was founded in 1943 and is accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Most programs are taught in English in addition to the native language. It is a non-profit university. The QS World University Ranking places it among the top 500 universities in the world. Auezov South Kazakhstan University is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Today, the university is committed to excellence in teaching and research, distance learning and the active promotion of young scientists. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University is a member of the Erasmus+ program, ECTN, EURASHE, Eurasian Association, CIS Networking Universities. The university has signed cooperation agreements with more than 160 universities and scientific research institutions. Our students have the opportunity to study in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Malaysia, Spain, Russia and other countries. It is at #482 in QS World University Rankings and at #96 in EECA University Rankings.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
In total, the university has 457 classrooms, 130 laboratories and 49 computer classes. The educational process uses more than 1800 computers, 85% of which are new generation computers, and 1540 computers are connected to the Internet. The university spent more than 600 million tenge on the new equipment and the creation of a modern material and technical base, of which more than 300 million tenges alone on the purchase of new equipment. This year, the university sets up a regional engineering laboratory for biochemical and structural materials. There are currently over 1,540 computers on campus providing wireless Internet services to students. South Kazakhstan State University also hosts the Language Centre and Careers and Marketing Centre which offers foreign language education, graduate promotion for employment in companies and organisations and careers. South Kazakhstan State University offers higher education degrees such as bachelor's, masters and doctorate in various fields of study at its 8 faculties. The faculties include Science, Physical Education and Sport, Pedagogy, Philology, Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Technology and Information Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Food and Textiles, History, Business, Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, and many others.
Accomplishments and Alumni
South Kazakhstan State University has received more than 2,345 scholarships from the government and regional organisations, making it the third-largest university in the country by the number of scholarships. South Kazakhstan State University also maintains well-established partnerships and collaborations with leading Kazakh organisations such as Interkomshina JSC, Shymkent Cement JSC, Kazphosphate LLP, Petrokazakhstan JSC, Melanzh JSC, SouthWest Agrarian Centre to promote educational, scientific and industrial cooperation. Some of the notable alumni are Alipbek Userbaev (Politician), Sofya Berultseva (Kazakhstani Professional karateka Olympic bronze medallist), Zautbek Kausbekuly Turisbekov (Kazakh diplomat).
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
It has almost 1,499 scientific employees, of whom around 700 are teachers and the rest are scientific employees. About 20,000 students study at the university in 83 disciplines. The SKU provides a good scientific and educational environment for 25,560 students, 24,247 bachelor's, 1,171 master's, and 142,300 doctoral programs developed by the academic staff of the university.
