Bindusara, the second Mauryan emperor of India, was succeeded by one of the greatest rulers in Indian history\u2014Ashoka the Great<\/strong>. Ashoka was his most prominent son and later became the third emperor of the Mauryan Dynasty<\/strong>, ruling from around 268 BCE to 232 BCE. He is remembered for his military conquests, but more importantly, for his conversion to Buddhism and his promotion of non-violence, dharma (moral law), and welfare of his people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ashoka is widely regarded as the most illustrious of the Mauryan emperors. His reign marked a turning point in Indian and world history, particularly due to his adoption and propagation of Buddhism after the bloody Kalinga War<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bindusara is believed to have had several sons, but Ashoka<\/strong> emerged as the most capable and eventually became emperor after a reported struggle for succession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
