According to the most recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)<\/strong>, Australia is making progress in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and drawing a steady stream of foreign students. However, as compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, the number of pupils was 22.5 percent lower in February, according to Erudera.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, Peter Chesworth, the interim chief executive of Universities Australia, commented on the statistics and noted that the influx of foreign students into Australia improves campus life as well as the nation’s economy, which benefits colleges, small businesses, and communities overall. The ABS reported earlier this year that there were 111 percentage points more foreign students in Australia<\/strong> than there were in the same month last year, going from 28,030 to over 500,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, according to Chesworth, the education that Australian institutions give international students is a valuable instrument for fostering cross-cultural understanding and enduring relationships. “We are slowly but surely regaining the strength we had before the pandemic. For the benefit of our universities and all Australians, the sooner we arrive there, the better, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, figures from the Australian Department of Education showed that roughly 2,000 more foreign students were pursuing degrees at the nation’s universities in January of this year than during the same time last year. Official data showed a 34.4 percent decline compared to 2019, even though more students are returning. However, the number has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, in a media interview, Australia’s minister of education, Jason Clare, claimed that countries like the UK and Canada are “eating Australia’s lunch.” The COVID-19 pandemic, according to him, has “kneecapped” Australian foreign education. When Australia saw a drop in enrollment after asking students to return home during the pandemic days, according to Clare, the UK and Canada began working to welcome more international students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Australia, there were 7% more foreign students in 2022 than there were in 2021, with the majority of them coming from China<\/strong><\/a>, India, Nepal<\/strong>, Vietnam, and Colombia<\/strong><\/a>. Moreover, as per the trend in November 2022, there were 613,327 students from other countries, out of these 3,60,358 enrolled at higher education institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
