William Somerset Maugham was an English writer, who studied literature, philosophy, and the German language<\/strong><\/a> at Heidelberg University from 1891 to 1892. His literary life began in Heidelberg which led him to write his first unpublished book which was a biography of composer Giacomo Meyerbeer.
