These universities are often seen as the most prestigious in the country, and entry to them is highly competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leverageedu.com\/learn\/study-abroad-university-of-essex-offers-new-financial-support-for-indian-masters-students-news-2024-02\/\"><strong>University of Essex Offers New Financial Support for Indian Master\u2019s Students<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-is-the-metric-being-reviewed\"><span id=\"why-is-the-metric-being-reviewed\">Why is the metric being reviewed?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The government is reviewing the metric because some argue that it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reinforces the view that only Russell Group universities are good. This can disadvantage other universities that may be a better fit for certain students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourages schools to push students towards Russell Group universities, even if it\u2019s not the best option. Schools may prioritize sending students to these universities to improve their performance metrics, even if there are better-suited courses elsewhere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is not the most accurate measure of school performance. Another metric already exists that looks at the proportion of students going to universities in the top third of Ucas tariffs, which is a broader measure of university quality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leverageedu.com\/learn\/study-abroad-list-of-easiest-countries-to-get-a-work-visa-news-2024-02\/\"><strong>List of Easiest Countries to Get a Work Visa<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-people-saying-about-the-review\"><span id=\"what-are-people-saying-about-the-review\">What are people saying about the review?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Education leaders have welcomed the review. They believe that the current metric is unfair and misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sir David Bell, a former education official, said that the metric assumes \u201cthere is a category of \u2018good\u2019 universities, and the rest are irrelevant.\u201d He argues that other universities excel in various ways and the focus should not solely be on the Russell Group.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alex Bols, from the representative body for smaller universities, believes the metric \u201cdisproportionally skews behaviour of schools, parents and students.\u201d He emphasizes the importance of recognizing the value of other excellent universities and specialized institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leverageedu.com\/learn\/study-in-uk-university-of-birmingham-india-chancellors-scholarship-applications-open-for-2024-25-news-2024-02\/\"><strong>University of Birmingham India Chancellor\u2019s Scholarship Applications Open for 2024-25<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-will-happen-next\"><span id=\"what-will-happen-next\">What will happen next?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The government is currently reviewing the metric and will decide whether to continue using it in the future.
