Niall McLaughlin Architects has submitted the latest plan for Hertford University<\/strong>, Oxford<\/strong> School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), Kellogg University<\/strong> and Reuben University. The plan is another major university project that is due to be given the green light next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Are the Plans?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are plans that the campus will soon have a 12,000 square meter student residence. This plan has been submitted to the Oxford Council planning officer for approval. Councillors are expected to make a decision at a Planning Committee meeting next Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the plan, the development will occupy the rear gardens of a block of mainly residential properties. These will be bounded by Banbury Road, North Parade Avenue, Winchester Road and Bevington Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be six new buildings for student accommodation and the existing villas at 43-45 Banbury Road will be converted into student rooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several open spaces will be housed in the Hertford University pavilion. A new departmental building for the South-East Asian Studies Centre will also open in this context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new structures will be set in gardens designed by landscape architect Kim Wilkie, with whom Niall McLaughlin Architects has previously worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Victorian Society has objected to the plans because they would affect the North Oxford Conservation Area. It is characterized by 19th-century mansions with large gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project team includes structural and civil engineer Smith & Wallwork, building services engineer Max Fordham, cost consultant Gleeds and heritage consultant Donald Insall Associates. The team also includes planning consultant Carter Jonas, project manager CPC Project Services and fire safety engineer Bureau Veritas. A future timetable for the development is not yet known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
