Over 1/3rd of students who are studying for their undergraduate degree in Scotland are from overseas, reports stated. As a result, international students are helping to boost the overall economy of Scotland. 

The analysis that was published on Tuesday said that the intake of international students in the current academic yearhas boosted the Scottish economy by more than GBP 4.75 billion, where international students who are studying in Edinburgh, Glasglow, Dundee, and Aberdeen bringing the most value. 

Principal of Edinburgh Napier University, Professor Andrea Nolan, said that the reports make it clear the contribution of international students to enhance the society as well as the economy of Scotland. 

The report, which was published by the Higher Education Policy Institute, Universities UK International, and Kaplan International in collaboration with London Economics, stated that over 44,000 international students have take admission to the Scottish colleges. 

The current growth of international students in the present academic year is 34% more than the 2021-2022 academic year. It’s also over 29,000 more than the 2018-2019 academic year. 

What are the Statements from the Report?

The report consisting of 89 pages also stated that the overall proportion of international students has also increased in Scotland. 

Apart from London, the report also stated that international students who are studying in Scotland are some of the most effective financial contributors in terms of economic growth. 

In Glasgow alone, reports stated that financial advantages provided to international students in the 2021-2022 academic year have brought over GBP 292 million. 

On average, every nine international students who are studying for their higher education in Scotland helped generate over GBP 1 million of economic impact on the overall UK economy throughout the entire duration of the study. 

Apart from the economic benefits, international students have also played a massive role in diversifying the communities and culture of the campus.
