The 2009 establishment of the US Consulate in Hyderabad marks the opening of a US diplomatic mission in India since 1947.

All applicants including students with study abroad programme visiting the Hyderabad Visa Application Center on or after January 8 should go to the new centre at Madhapur, the US Consulate General advised.

All candidates are urged to visit the new location at Lower Concourse, HITEC City Metro Station, Madhapur instead of the Hyderabad centre for their scheduled appointments, document submissions, and passport collecting.

Hyderabad houses the largest US consulate in Asia

In Hyderabad’s Financial District, the largest US consulate in Asia will soon be inaugurated. There will be 54 windows in the 12.2-acre facility dedicated to processing visas.

The goal is to move into the new office by the first half of 2023, according to Jennifer Larson, U.S. Consul General in Hyderabad, who already offered views of it.

There will be numerous additional elements at the consulate office in addition to the 54 windows for processing visas. The US has contributed $297 million toward the construction of the new office, which is situated on a 12.2-acre plot.

The first US embassy to open in India after 1947

The first US diplomatic mission to open in India since 1947 is the one in Hyderabad, which opened in 2009. The current location is Paigah Palace in Begumpet’s Chiran Fort Lane. Three states are included in the Hyderabad Consular District. These are what they are:

  • Andhra Pradesh, 
  • Odisha, and 
  • Telangana

Hyderabad candidates for US student visas compete for slots

US student visa applicants struggle to find slots at the US Consulate in Hyderabad despite the US’s efforts to cut down on appointment wait times. Students, particularly those hoping to enrol in US universities for the January intake, are frantically searching for openings.

However, despite a significant reduction from the wait time in November, the appointment wait time for tourist visas is still excessively long.
