Indian Government Scholarships Overview

Goa Education Trust Scholarships	1. The student should have a record of excellence in academics and other extracurricular activities. 2. He/She should be below the age of 30 years. 3. The partial or full tuition fee depends upon the merit of the student and the course he/she has chosen.
National Overseas Scholarship Scheme by the Indian Government	1. The candidate should be below 35 yrs. of age.  2. Whole annual family income should be less than Rs.6 lakh. 3. The candidate should have no more than 1 sibling who got the same scholarship. 4. Must have scored 55% or above in a UG degree if the candidate is applying to a PG course and 55% or above in a PG degree if the candidate is applying for a PhD. 5. The student should belong to SC, DN (Denotified Nomadic) and SNT (Semi-Nomadic Tribes), Landless Agricultural Laborers and Traditional Artisans.	The expenses covered in this scholarship include things like-Visa fees, health insurance, living expenses, Airfare, cost of books, and Tuition fees.
Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships	1. The candidate must be registered for PhD at an Indian institution.  2. The thesis submission date should not be earlier than 3 months after the end date of the scholarship.  3. At the time of filling out the application the candidate would be required to upload a copy of the published paper or excerpts of the thesis.	Under this fellowship, a candidate gets Airfare (Round-trip economy class), a monthly stipend, Accident and health coverage, a settling-in allowance, and J-1 visa assistance.
Fulbright Kalam Climate Fellowship	1. The candidates registered for PhD at an Indian institution with affiliation from U.S host institution during the grant period 2.  The thesis submission date should not be earlier than 3 months after the end date of the scholarship.  3. At the time of filling out the application the candidate would be required to upload a copy of the published paper or excerpts of the thesis.	Under this fellowship, a candidate gets Airfare (Round-trip economy class), a monthly stipend, Accident and health coverage, a settling-in allowance, and J-1 visa assistance.
Fulbright Nehru Master’s Scholarship	1. A candidate should have completed 4 years of bachelor’s degree/ Masters’ degree/full-time PG diploma from a recognised Indian Institution.  2. 55%or above in UG degree 3. Leadership skills with prior experience in community service.  4. At least 3 years of prior work experience along with an intention to return to India.	Expenses like accident and health coverage according to U.S guidelines, assistance in J-1 visa, travel allowance, living expenses and tuition fees.

Goa Education Trust Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to Indian students who want to pursue a postgraduate degree in the UK. Goa Education Trust in collaboration with the British Council of India offers a one-time payment of a scholarship on the basis of the applicant’s past academic performance, references and extracurricular activities the student has taken. The scholarship is applicable to all the universities in the UK. Under this scholarship Students, residents of Goa are given preference over other candidates. 

1. Amount of scholarship – Partial or full tuition fee depending upon the merit of the student and the course he/she has chosen.

2. Prerequisites to apply for this scholarship-

• The student should have a record of excellence in academics and other extracurricular activities.

•  He/She should be below the age of 30 years.

•  The candidate should be a resident of Goa or a descend of it.

• The student must have completed graduation from a recognized Indian university.

3. Duration of the scholarship and basis on which it is awarded – The duration for which this scholarship is awarded for 1 year and it is awarded on a merit basis looking at the previous performance of the candidate. 

4. Subject categories preferred under this scholarship- Architecture, Journalism, Communications, Education and Management. 

National Overseas Scholarship Scheme by the Indian Government

Specially formulated for students belonging to categories like SC, DN (Denotified Nomadic) and SNT (Semi-Nomadic Tribes), Landless Agricultural Laborers and Traditional Artisans to uplift their social and economic status by giving them an opportunity to study abroad. Approximately 125 scholarships are awarded which is subject to the availability of funds. 

1. Amount of Scholarship – The expenses covered in this scholarship includes things like-

Visa fees, health insurance, living expenses, Airfare, cost of books, and Tuition fees.

       2. Prerequisites to apply for this scholarship –

• The candidate should be below 35 yrs. of age. 

• The whole annual family income should be less than Rs.6 lakh.

• The candidate should have no more than 1 sibling who got the same scholarship.

•  Must have scored 55% or above in UG degree if the candidate is applying to a PG course and 55% or above in a PG degree if the candidate is applying for a PhD.

 3. Duration and the basis on which it is awarded – The duration for which this scholarship is awarded for 2 years and it is a student-focused scholarship to help them grow economically and socially. 

4. Subject categories preferred under this scholarship – It is meant for students wanting to pursue Masters and Ph.D in the following subject areas-Humanities and Social Science, Accounting and Finance, International Commerce, Agricultural Sciences and Medicine, Pure Sciences and Applied Sciences, Engineering and Management.

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships  

The candidates applying for this scholarship should have prior work experience in their concerned fields. Going to the U.S. can help scholars to get expertise by being a part of activities like doing research, practical work experience, and auditing non-degree courses. This scholarship is offered by U.S.- Indian Educational Foundation (USIEF) to scholars who are part of an Indian institution to conduct 6-9 months of their remaining research in a US institution.

1. Amount of Scholarship – Under this fellowship, a candidate gets Airfare (Round-trip economy class), a monthly stipend, Accident and health coverage, a settling-in allowance, and J-1 visa assistance.

2. Prerequisites to apply for this scholarship –

• The candidate must be registered for PhD at an Indian institution. 
•  The thesis submission date should not be earlier than 3 months after the end date of the scholarship. 
• At the time of filling out the application, the candidate would be required to upload a copy of the published paper or excerpts of the thesis.

3. Duration and the basis on which it is awarded – This scholarship is awarded for the duration of 1-2 years and is awarded on the basis of merit looking at the performance of the scholar. 

4. General date – Looking at previous year trends the deadline for the application is in the July of the previous year a scholar wants to go to the USA to complete his/her research. 

Fulbright Kalam Climate Fellowship 

It is specially formulated for scholars who are engaged in research that addresses climate change-related issues in India and the US. This is awarded to bring about effective solutions that can help in solving serious issues that are harming the environment.

1. Amount of scholarship – Under this fellowship, a candidate gets Airfare (Round-trip economy class), monthly stipend, Accident and health coverage, settling-in allowance, and J-1 visa assistance.

2. Prerequisites to apply for this scholarship –

• The candidates registered for PhD at an Indian institution with affiliation from a U.S host institution during the grant period.
• The thesis submission date should not be earlier than 3 months after the end date of the scholarship.

5. Research areas preferred under this scholarship – Disaster resilient infrastructure, Environmental Engineering, Public policy, Agriculture, Smart Cities, Renewable Energy, Environmental Sciences, Geology, Earth Science, Energy studies etc. 

Fulbright Nehru Master’s Scholarship 

Presented on the basis of merit, this scholarship aims to help bright students wanting to pursue Masters in Abroad. It is awarded specifically to applicants who want to pursue Masters in selected American universities and colleges. 

1. Amount of scholarship –  Expenses like accident and health coverage according to U.S guidelines, assistance in J-1 visa, travel allowance, living expenses and tuition fees. 

2. Prerequisites to apply for this scholarship –

•  A candidate should have completed 4 years bachelor’s degree/ Masters’ degree/ full time PG diploma from a recognised Indian Institution. 
• 55%or above in UG degree.
• Leadership skills with prior experience in community service. 
• At least 3 years of prior work experience with along with an intention to returning to India. 

3. Duration and the basis on which it is awarded – This scholarship is awarded for the duration of 1-2 years and is awarded on the basis of merit looking at the performance of the scholar.

Subject categories preferred under this scholarship – Urban and regional Planning, Women’s studies/Gender studies, Public Health, Public Administration, Journalism and Mass communication, International Legal Studies, International Affairs, Higher education Administration, Environmental Science/Studies, Economics, Arts and Culture management including Heritage conservation and Museum studies.
