The full form of GNM is General Nursing and Midwifery. The GNM paramedical diploma programme<\/a><\/strong> lasts three and a half years. GNM emphasises the importance of midwifery, community health care, and the community to nursing students. After passing the 10th-grade board exam, students can enrol in a GNM programme, which is followed by a two-year pre-university science programme. Another requirement for candidature is a minimum of 50% overall in the science stream of the second-year PUC. There aren’t many colleges that use entrance exams to determine who gets in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the History of GNM?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thomas Hospital in England was the first to establish comparable nursing programmes in India. St. Stephen’s Hospital in Delhi was the first in India to start a nursing training programme for women in 1867. In 1871, India established its first nursing school in Madras (now Chennai) in a general public hospital. At the time, there were only four students present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Significance of GNM<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

General nursing midwifery (GNM), a long-standing profession, has only grown in importance in the modern era as a result of the rising population, illnesses, and diseases. First and foremost, they are critical in assisting doctors as they work in operating rooms, hospital wards, and so on. As a result, they could be described as a doctor’s hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Career Options Following a GNM Course<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After completing three and a half years of General Nursing and Midwifery, the candidate can pursue a career as a staff nurse, Nursing tutor, community health care Nursing, physician attendant, ICU nurse, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After successfully completing the GNM course, the candidate is registered with the state nurse registration council. Following that, the individual may pursue a B.SC. in Nursing, which is a two-year bachelor’s degree in nursing<\/strong>. Distance learning programmes, on the other hand, extend the length of the degree to three years. A nursing degree opens up a broader career path with better job prospects in India and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
