What is JAMB in Nigeria? What is its relevance? JAMB stands for The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). For tertiary-level institutions, it is a Nigerian entrance examination board. JAMB conducts The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is an entry-level examination for graduates who seek to take admission into tertiary education in Nigeria. History 

Established in 1978, JAMB was responsible for ensuring that uniform conduct of matriculation examinations takes place, along with the placement of Nigerian students into the nation’s universities. Soon, after some amendments, there were issues of standards and uniformity in the admission process. This made it difficult for students to take admitted into tertiary institutions. Now, what is tertiary education in Nigeria? Education received after secondary education, such as in polytechnic, monotechnics, and other colleges and institutions that provide corresponding courses comes under tertiary education. JAMB got responsible for conducting Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which helped admissions into tertiary institutions.

UTME Requirements

The candidate must earn 5 SSC credit pass in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Basic Catering and Food Services, Biology/Agricultural Science Bakery and Confectionery, and Basic Electricity, Hotel & Catering Craft Course (Food /Drinks Services), and Hotel & Catering Crafty course (Cookery).
