History
Established in 1978, JAMB was responsible for ensuring that uniform conduct of matriculation examinations takes place, along with the placement of Nigerian students into the nation’s universities. Soon, after some amendments, there were issues of standards and uniformity in the admission process. This made it difficult for students to take admitted into tertiary institutions. Now, what is tertiary education in Nigeria? Education received after secondary education, such as in polytechnic, monotechnics, and other colleges and institutions that provide corresponding courses comes under tertiary education. JAMB got responsible for conducting Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which helped admissions into tertiary institutions.
