Every evening, 4\u20135 men gather on the park benches and take drugs openly. They smoke harmful substances and leave empty packets and syringes behind. The smell is strong and makes children and elderly people uncomfortable. Some of them even fight or shout loudly. A few days ago, a young man fell unconscious near the slide, and the children got very scared.

Because of this, many parents have stopped bringing their children to the park. The park, which was meant for play and exercise, is now dangerous and dirty. According to a 2025 report by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Punjab has over 7 lakh drug users, and many of them are below the age of 20.

I request you to kindly take serious action. Please arrange regular police visits to the park between 5 pm to 8 pm and remove the drug users from the area. It would also help if awareness posters about the harm of drugs were put up at the park entrance.


We, the children of this area, just want a safe place to play.

Every evening, a group of boys aged between 15 and 18 gather behind the old market complex. They are often seen smoking suspicious substances, using white powder, and behaving oddly. They sometimes argue or trouble people passing by. Some younger boys are also joining them. I feel worried because one of my classmates was invited to join their group and now avoids school.

This drug problem is growing fast. As per a 2024 survey by the Narcotics Control Bureau, more than 9 million Indians are affected by drug addiction, and many new users are teenagers. Easy availability of drugs and peer pressure are two main reasons. Once addicted, it becomes hard to stop, and it ruins education, health, and future goals.

I kindly request you to look into this matter. A police check near the old market, especially in the evening between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm, could help. Schools should also hold awareness classes with doctors or police officers who can explain how dangerous drugs are.
