Satyagraha Sabhas were established to spearhead the movement.<br><br><strong>Scope and Impact of Rowlatt Satyagraha<\/strong><br>\u2013 The Rowlatt Satyagraha marked the first all-India struggle against British rule, although its reach was primarily limited to urban areas.<br>\u2013 Demonstrations and hartals were organized across the country in April 1919, prompting a brutal crackdown by the government. The infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar on 13 April, carried out by General Dyer, was a brutal manifestation of this repression.<br>\u2013 The massacre deeply affected the nation, leading prominent figures like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/leverageedu.com\/discover\/trending-events\/10-lines-on-rabindranath-tagore\/\">Rabindranath Tagore<\/a><\/strong> to express their anguish by renouncing honours bestowed upon them by the British.<br><br><strong>Unity Efforts During Satyagraha<\/strong><br>\u2013 During <strong>the Rowlatt Satyagraha<\/strong>, efforts were made to ensure Hindu-Muslim unity in the fight against British rule.<br>\u2013 Mahatma Gandhi emphasized the unity of all communities in India, envisioning the country as a land for Hindus, Muslims, and people of other religions alike. He advocated mutual support between Hindus and Muslims in pursuing just causes.<br><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-khilafat-agitation-and-the-non-cooperation-movement-nbsp\">Khilafat agitation and the Non-Cooperation Movement\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d6ecfa\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Khilafat Issue and Non-Cooperation<\/strong> <strong>Movement (1920-1922)<\/strong><br>\u2013 In 1920, the British imposed a harsh treaty on the Turkish Sultan (Khalifa), enraging people similar to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.<br>\u2013 Indian Muslims were particularly aggrieved by the treaty as they wanted the Khalifa to retain control over Muslim sacred places in the Ottoman Empire.<br>\u2013 Leaders of the Khilafat agitation, Mohammad Ali and Shaukat Ali, sought to escalate the movement into a full-fledged Non-Cooperation Movement. Gandhi supported their initiative and urged the  Congress to campaign against \u201cPunjab wrongs\u201d (Jallianwala massacre), the Khilafat issue, and demand swaraj (self-rule).\u00a0\u00a0<br><br><strong>Momentum of the Non-Cooperation Movement<\/strong><br>\u2013 Between 1921 and 1922, the Non-Cooperation Movement gained significant momentum.<br>\u2013 Thousands of students abandoned government-controlled schools and colleges, while many prominent lawyers, including Motilal Nehru, C.R. Das, C. Rajagopalachari, and Asaf Ali, relinquished their practices.<br>\u2013 British titles were surrendered, legislatures were boycotted, and public bonfires of foreign cloth were lit as a symbol of resistance.<br>\u2013 The movement also witnessed a drastic decline in the import of foreign cloth between 1920 and 1922, reflecting widespread participation.<br>\u2013 The agitation signalled that large parts of the country were on the verge of a formidable revolt against British rule.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-people-s-initiatives\">People\u2019s initiatives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d6ecfa\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Resistance Across India<\/strong><br>\u2013 In Kheda, Gujarat, Patidar peasants organized non-violent campaigns against the high land revenue demands imposed by the British.<br><br>\u2013 Coastal Andhra and interior Tamil Nadu witnessed picketing of liquor shops as a form of protest.<br><br>\u2013 In the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, tribals and poor peasants conducted \u201cforest satyagrahas,\u201d sending their cattle into forests without paying grazing fees to protest against restrictions on forest resource usage.<br><br>\u2013 Peasants in forest villages proclaimed swaraj and anticipated the establishment of \u201cGandhi Raj\u201d as they believed Gandhiji would reduce their taxes and abolish forest regulations.<br><br>\u2013 In Sind, Muslim traders and peasants enthusiastically supported the Khilafat call, while in Bengal, the Khilafat-Non-Cooperation alliance fostered communal unity and strengthened the national movement.<br><br>\u2013 The Akali agitation in Punjab aimed to remove corrupt mahants, supported by the British, from Sikh gurdwaras, aligning closely with the Non-Cooperation Movement.<br><br>\u2013 In Assam, tea garden labourers demanded significant wage increases, leaving British-owned plantations while chanting \u201cGandhi Maharaj ki Jai\u201d to express their support for Gandhi\u2019s wishes. Assamese Vaishnava songs of the period even substituted references to Krishna with \u201cGandhi Raja.\u201d<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-people-s-mahatma\">The people\u2019s Mahatma<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d6ecfa\"><tbody><tr><td>\u2013 Gandhi
