Additionally, Factors of 5 come into use whilst solving problems that involve multiplication, division, and the highest common factors (HCF). In this blog, you will learn about the Factors of 5, the Negative Factors of 5, Factor Pairs and the Factors of 5 through the Division Method.

What are the Factors of 5?

A Factor of a number is any integer that divides evenly into that number, with no remainder. Therefore, if you can split a number into equal groups without anything leftover, the number used for splitting is a Factor.

Furthermore, the only two numbers that divide into 5 with no remainder are as follows:

1

5

Hence, 1 and 5 are the only Factors of 5 (if you consider positive integers).

Did you know? Well, 5 is a Prime number! Prime numbers, by definition, have exactly only two factors which would be 1 and themselves.

What are the Factors of Negative 5?

Furthermore, since multiplication works the same way for positive and negative numbers, the factors of negative 5 are also 1 and -5.

Think about it this way:

1 x -5 = -5 (positive times negative equals negative)

-5 x 1 = -5 (negative times positive equals negative)

Also Read: Factors of 10: Factor Tree, Division Method, Factor Pairs

What are the Factor Pairs of 5?

Another way to look at factors is in Pairs. Moreover, every Factor of a number has a connected “partner” that you multiply by to get the original number.

For 5, the Factor Pairs are:

(1, 5) 1 multiplied by 5 equals 5

(5, 1) 5 multiplied by 1 equals 5 (Though the order does not matter in multiplication, we usually list the smaller number first)

Also Read: Factors of 16: Negative Factors, Factor Tree, Pairs and Division Method and more!

Factors of 5 by Division Method

Additionally, you can also find the Factors of 5 by simple Division Method:

Start with 1. It divides into 5 with no remainder, so 1 is a factor.

Try dividing by 2, 3, and so on. Since 5 is a Prime number, none of these other numbers will divide evenly into 5.

However, this method works well for smaller numbers like 5, but it can become time-consuming for larger numbers.

Related Blogs

7 Types of Fractions with Examples

Factors of 25

Factors of 20

Multiplication Tables of 1 to 20

Ordinal Numbers from 1 to 100!

Table of 17: Multiples up to 20 & a Trick!

Table of 12: Multiples up to 20!

Formula of Profit and Loss

I hope this helps!
